Weather in Bowling Green

Memo from the Mayor

City Hall has been temporarily closed to the public due to covid-19 but is still operating behind closed doors. Milling is almost completed at the airport this week while Alliance cleared a temporary runway for Air Cover Crop Solutions. Unfortunately, the heavy rains render it unusable and also delayed street work on Court and Champ Clark.  However, chipping and sealing will be applied by Alliance on Wednesday of this week, weather permitting, on Court and Champ Clark streets. Alliance is continuing to replace fire hydrants, digging new ditches for drainage, cleaning and opening culverts, and mowing at the lake dams and area. Alliance is also interviewing for two general labor openings. True Manufacturing is hiring along with our Library and the Men’s Correctional Facility. Pawsitively Pampered Pets is looking to hire a groomer with experience while Dollar General is hiring a sales associate and lead sales associate. The new Visitors Center is looking for volunteers and Bowling Green Water Works Week is providing tours of our two water plants August — Regrettably, Rhythm in the Park has been postponed  along with the Park Board meeting on August 19.  The next Aldermanic Meeting is Monday, August 24 at 5:30.  If any concerns arise, please feel free to call or text your City Hall. There is a unique opportunity for citizens who own undeveloped property in Bowling Green. There are requests to purchase these lots to build housing. Single lots are going for $5,000 to $8,000 while double lots range from $8 to $12,000. This depends on location, back taxes that may be due to the City and/or State, and if any demolition would need to be done. If any of these conditions exists, the property value is at the lower pricing. If there is any interest in selling your lot(s), please call my office at City Hall or contact your favorite Realty Company.  We have a list of potential buyers. It’s close to budget time for the new fiscal 2021 year. I have had many suggestions concerning reopening the Animal Shelter, Senior Citizens and youth gathering places, improving access at the airport for the planes in the hangers, (which is not included in the FAA grant), and improved transportation throughout the City for shut-ins, disabled,  Veterans, and “mature” citizens. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, now is the time to call the Mayor. Enjoy the Bowling Green swimming pool as it closes this week Saturday, August 22. Many thanks to Rebecca, her managers, and her life guards for an enjoyable summer of swimming and family fun!  Vision of Dad Movie Night is Friday evening. At 8:00 “How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World” is showing and at 10:00 “Bad Boys for Life” rated NC17.  They are asking $15 per car-load with no limitation on numbers. This is an outdoor amphitheater setting so bring your own blankets, lawn chairs, coolers, (no glass please), and food.  Social distancing is in order but masks are optional.  This is located on Business 61 north of town near the airport.
